Puppy Development

Our puppy development program is like pre-school for puppies; all fun and a little structure. During puppy development, pups are introduced to birds, different kinds of cover, gun fire, and basic obedience. We aim to just let the puppies be puppies and explore their world, part of this is socialization. Pups are socialized to different dogs, different people and of course birds! Puppy development is not training, it is to develop the pups prey drive and prepare them for their futures as bird dogs. 

Age: Ideally puppy development would occur when the puppy is between 12-20 weeks old. 

Duration: 3-4 Weeks

Foundation Training

Our foundation training is built off of the three foundational pillars: Go with you, come to you and be still. This 6-8 week program introduces dogs to the bird dog basics through yard work, bird work and field work. Our objectives in formal training are to teach the dog to go with us in the field or woods, come to us when asked, and stop to honor other dogs and stop when asked. Along with these three things, the dogs get multiple opportunities each week to find birds, socialize with other dogs and explore different covers.  By the end of the program you will have a dog that will work with you in the field to find birds.

Age: Minimum 6 months of age.

Duration: 6-8 weeks

Wild Bird Camp

We are privileged to live on the edge of the Buena Vista Grasslands, home to the only population of Prairie Chickens east of the Mississippi. This gives the dogs a hunting season, before the fall season begins. In the prairie, dogs get ample opportunities to find birds, honor other dogs, get experience going with the hunters and learn to work the cover. 

Wild Bird Camp is open to any dog who has a foundation level training. Many dogs return for a couple weeks every summer to get a chance to get back into shape and find birds before hunting season begins. 

Time frame: Spring-March 1-April 14 (pending weather). Summer: August 1- September 20.

Duration: 2-8 weeks

Obedience Training

We welcome the non-bird dogs as well! Our goal is to have dogs that walk nicely with us, come when they are called and have manners inside the home and out in public.

Age: Begin anytime after 12 weeks of age.

Duration: 4-12 weeks
